The Racing Foundation is proud to share the news that Trustee Algy Smith-Maxwell has been named joint winner of the Outstanding Contribution Award at the 2025 Fund Manager of the Year Awards, in recognition of a remarkable career spanning over three decades in the investment industry.
The prestigious award, presented last month at a ceremony hosted by Vernon Kay at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, celebrates individuals who have made a lasting and positive impact on fund management. Algy received the honour alongside long-time colleague John Chatfeild-Roberts, with whom he helped shape Jupiter Asset Management’s highly regarded Merlin multi-manager team. Also a keen racing enthusiast, John is the owner of a string of point-to-pointers currently in training with Kelly Morgan.
Throughout his career, Algy has earned a reputation for sound judgement and strategic thinking in the finance sector, qualities that have also shaped his contribution as a Racing Foundation Trustee.
Algy joined the Racing Foundation Board in 2022 and has since played a key role in overseeing the evolution of the Foundation’s investment strategy and its continued governance. His experience in financial management has helped ensure the Foundation’s funds are well stewarded, enabling the Foundation to use the income from its investments to make grants supporting charitable activities in British racing. Since inception, over £39million has been granted by the Racing Foundation for charitable purposes.
If you’re interested in learning from Algy’s wealth of experience his podcast is available to stream on all major platforms. ‘Algy’s Investment Podcast’ talks to some of the leading minds in asset management and investing on topics including compound interest, value investing, macroeconomics, US equities and the technology sector.
